Used EV battery health: what 94% actually means

Battery "state of health" (SoH) is the usable capacity remaining compared to when the battery was new, expressed as a percentage. A 94% SoH means the battery now holds 94% of the charge it could when it left the factory. Every battery degrades: it's chemistry, not a fault. A well-looked-after EV typically loses around 2-3% of its capacity in the first year and then settles into a much slower decline, often under 1% a year after that. A 3-year-old EV sitting at 94-96% SoH is entirely normal. What's worth asking about: how the car was charged (frequent rapid-charging accelerates degradation slightly faster than home AC charging), and whether the figure comes from the manufacturer's own diagnostic tool or a third-party estimate. The two aren't always calibrated the same way. We publish the tested state of health on every EV we sell, and we don't take one in below a figure we're comfortable standing behind. No guesswork, no "it seems fine": the number is there before you enquire.
